Sin. What is sin? How do I recognize sin? Sin is a defiance from the will of God. God made clear the things we should and should not do by giving us the ten commandments. More than guidelines for living, but laws not to be broken. (Exodus 20:1-17) These commandments are listed below.
1) "You shall have no other gods before me
2)You shall not make for yourself an idol
3)You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God
4)Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy
5)Honor your father and your mother
6)You shall not murder
7)You shall not commit adultery
8)You shall not steal
9)You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor
10)You shall not covet
When you break one of Gods laws... any one... there are consequences, punishments, and it separates you from God. Look over the list. Look carefully, and be honest with yourself. Have you sinned? Don't try to excuse yourself with "small sins" God sees lust as adultry and hate as murder (1 John 3-15) And yes, God does see behind that closed door. Remember: "He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy".
Salvation is a free gift from God in His mercy that rescues the believer from sin and its consequences... renews him/her to a holy life, and puts him/her in a right standing with God for all eternity.
Salvation emplies that we need to be saved from something. Are we in danger? Yes. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23) Death? Everyone dies right? Right, once. There is also something called a "second death" which is the eternal seperation from God's Glory we call hell.
Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. What that means is... as a person alone, you cannot do anything to be saved. The only "action" necessary to incur salvation is FAITH in Jesus Christ. Believe in Him and His death on the cross as payment for every time you sinned -defied God. YOU should have payed for it. YOU should have died for your sins, but God "so loved the world"(you included) "He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Jesus said this, as found in Mark 16:16, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned" Believe. Trust God. Recieve Freedom from the power of sin... Pray this prayer and be baptized
"Lord, God I know I am a sinner, please forgive me. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross and pay for every time I wronged you. I understand that He rose on the third day and I recieve Him as my Lord and Savior."
